The Bulletproof Balloons are an artist duo consisting of Chic and Martin.
Chic originally hails from Scotland, and after a life of travels and adventures he has settled down in London. He was living as a stone mason and art sculptor until 2018, when he saw a documentary about the war tragedies in Syria which changed his life. He started traveling again, yet this time with a fierce determination to help the children suffering from conflicts and war. He discovered how magic had a wonderfully therapeutic effect on the children, and has since then developed a show which can impress all ages.
Martin is a Danish social worker and anthropologist. He started working with refugees in 2004, and pursued a professional career within the Red Cross. Eventually in 2012 he quit his job, as it didn't align with his vision of how to help the children. Being a life-long musician he took up street music to make a living and focused his humanitarian efforts on his own projects, which often involved circus arts which was a personal hobby of his.
In 2019, Chic and Martin met in Lesbos, Greece, where they both had traveled to help out with the refugee crisis on the small island. They had chosen the same NGO to work for, and in meeting each other they discovered a shared aspiration to bring fun and wonder to the children.
Since then they have traveled together and visited thousands of children in refugee camps and orphanages, spread out over numerous countries and displaced due to various conflicts. The mix of magic, music, circus arts and good old slapstick comedy, bestows an unprecedented experience of fun, joy and wonder to the many children that they visit.
